The purpose of the assignment is to provide technical support to AEPC towards formulation of a concept note for Green Climate Fund (GCF) on their proposed project concept on National Solar Mini-Grid Programme for Low Carbon Economic Development. The specific objectives include; stock of project baseline, climate change scenario, sectoral and structural barriers and alignment with national policies and priorities; conduct pre-feasibility assessments to provide theory of change, project components and showcase alignment with GCF’s investment criteria; prepare a detailed project concept note for project preparation facility along with the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) application.
WindPower Nepal is implementing a sub-project in partnership with USAID TAYAR Nepal project that will install renewable energy powered weather advisory system in Kagbeni, Chhusang and Jhong villages of Varagung Muktichettra Gaunpalika for improved decision making for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). Under this grant, WindPower Nepal Pvt. Ltd. will pilot a robust, resilient and decentralized off-grid Renewable Energy powered weather advisory and Early Warning System (EWS) at selected strategic locations in the municipality that strongly contribute municipality in disaster preparedness, strengthen the disaster resilience & response against extreme weather & climate induced disaster events through actionable information. The project will transfer the necessary skill to municipal DRRM desk to operationalize the weather advisory and EWS and to disseminate the forecasts to the stations to be established at two points within the municipality. The project will also enhance the understanding of hazards, & disaster risks and improve the disaster preparedness capacity among the municipal leaders, staff, stakeholders and local people of Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality through piloting and upscaling such weather advisory and EWS beyond this project.
WPN is developing a feasibility study report for Butwal Power Company Limited for Developing a Utility Scale Solar Project in Jhimruk Hydroelectric Centre, Jhimruk Rural Municipality, Pyuthan District. The report will include a Techno-Economic feasibility of the project along with assessment of the available solar resource to analyze the maximum potential of generation at the project site base on secondary data and on-site shadow/sun-path analysis, identification of most viable power evacuation points and perform a detailed economic analysis of each scenario.
WPN has carried out the project for Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The purpose of the market demand assessment was to analyze the potential demand for Bio-CNG as a substitute for the conventional fuels such as LPG, diesel, coal, charcoal, biomass pellets, etc., used in the manufacturing as well as the service sector firms that are located within a 50km distance from the respective project site. The assessment was performed for generating the market assessments required by GCF and AEPC to assess the viability of biogas plants based on well-established criteria used for existing biogas plants.
Hariyo Ban Program had installed solar powered water pumps in Chitwan, Banke, Bardiya, and Shuklaphanta National Park, which lacked natural source of water for wildlife. These pumps have been instrumental in supplying fresh water for the wildlife. Some of the pumps had not been operating so, WindPower Nepal had visited all the stations for maintenance and ensured the smooth operation of the system.
WindPower Nepal has been contracted by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) to prepare a full funding proposal on ‘mitigating GHG emission and increasing adaptive capacity through the clean cooking solution’, for submitting to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). AEPC, which is an accredited Direct Access Entity (DAE) of GCF, has prepared a concept note, which has been submitted to the GCF. WPN is preparing the full funding proposal based on the concept note, in close coordination with AEPC and GCF appointed international consultant. The project is funded by the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), a global knowledge and technical assistance program administered by the World Bank. WPN is partnering with Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and 3E, a Belgian company, on this wind resource mapping project. Ten met masts for collecting wind data have been installed throughout the country to produce a Wind Atlas of Nepal by 2020.
WindPower Nepal is currently conducting site survey and investigations to prepare the Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) Report for developing a utility scale wind farm in Karnali Chisapani. Alternative Energy Promotions Centre is the client of the project and WPN is undertaking the project in Joint Venture with Emerging Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and Sun Urja Nepal.
The study will incorporate detailed wind farm analysis; geological and geo-technical survey; grid evacuation plan; transmission and distribution line analysis; project optimization schemes; environment and social assessment and detailed financial analysis.
WindPower Nepal (WPN) has been working with Nepal Institute of Development Studies (NIDS) to develop Master Plan for Baragaun Muktichhetra Rural Municipality, Mustang, Gandaki Province. WPN will develop the overall energy plan for the rural municipality; the energy plan identifies potential projects/opportunities in energy sector for the next 10 years and formulates implementation plan for those projects. The report also incorporates detailed financial plan, recommendations on operational challenges and suitable project ownership models.
Sheshkant Foundation, a not-for-profit social organization based in Dhunibesi Municipality, Dhading has contracted WindPower Nepal for installing a community based solar water pumping project to supply clean drinking water to a community of 150 households in Dhakalkhola Village of Dhunibesi Municipality – 5. This is the second phase of the drinking water lifting projects being conducted by Sheshkant Foundation in Dhunibesi Municipality.
The system will consist of a 10.26kWp PV system to power a 7.5HP pump with 7.5kW VFD pump controller. Solar Water Lifting is a proven model for access to water in communities that would otherwise have to rely on cumbersome manual labor or rainwater.”
