Fair-Wind Mobile Charger

Fair-Wind Mobile Charger

WPN conducted a pre-feasibility assessment in March 2013 for the World Bank Nepal office to launch a “Fair-Wind Prototype” that uses wind energy to charge mobile phones. This technology, designed by an Austrian Company, has the potential to help consumers without electricity to have access to mobile connection, and telecom suppliers to expand their outreach. As a part of the project, WPN identified five most suitable sites in Nepal for the launch of the prototype based on following criteria:

  1. Assessing wind speed of Nepal using satellite wind data
  2. Analysis of mobile network coverage
  3. Grid connectivity and Road Access
  4. Population density, Gender and Social Inclusion
