WindPower Nepal installed ten household-level aquaponics unitsand one demonstration unit in Bhardev-5, Konjyosom Rural Municipality. The project aimed to strengthen women’s resilience to climate change by promoting sustainable aquaponics technology that integrates fish and vegetable farming through a cricular economic approach.
WindPower Nepal carried out a comprehensive review of the criteria, financial flow, and reporting mechanisms related to natural resources-based royalties. The study assessed the distribution modalities of conservation and forest-based royalties among federal, provincial, and local governments, and examined how local governments are utilizing these funds in line with existing guidelines. It identified key gaps in the management of natural resource revenues and provided actionable recommendations to NNRFC for improving royalty distribution frameworks and expenditure compliance.
WindPower Nepal is conducting a study to assess and forecast carbon emissions from the NWSC Lahan Drinking Water Supply System under the Beacon Project. The study analyzes emissions from fuel consumption and electricity use across production, treatment, distribution, and consumption stages, applying the “source-to-tap” approach. It includes forecasting future emission trends under different scenarios, developing mitigation strategies, and preparing an asset management plan. The project also aims to establish a replicable framework for carbon emission assessment in other water utilities across Nepal.
WindPower Nepal is developing the National Climate Performance Audit Guideline to establish a standardized framework for evaluating climate-related programs across sectors. The guideline focuses on performance indicators, risk assessment methodologies, and reporting mechanisms aligned with national climate goals and international commitments. The project also includes capacity-building workshops for federal and provincial auditors, equipping them with practical tools and knowledge to conduct effective climate audits. By strengthening audit capacity and introducing a long-term monitoring and evaluation framework, the project contributes to improved transparency, accountability, and climate governance in Nepal.
WindPower Nepal is currently revising the Parliamentary Handbook on Climate Finance to align it with federal and provincial mandates and constitutional responsibilities. The updated handbook incorporates the latest policies, strategies, and global best practices in climate finance, providing parliamentarians with practical tools for integrating climate finance into national and provincial planning and ensuring transparency and accountability in financial flows. The project also includes organizing workshops with parliamentarians to build their capacity on climate finance architecture, policy integration, and budget scrutiny for effective climate governance.
WindPower Nepal designed and installed a hydroponics system with 720 pots housed within a greenhouse at thr ICIMOD Knowledge Park. The project included providing hands-on orientation to the project team for effective system operation, covering nutrient dosing, suitable plant growth and productivity. Additionally, an educational program was developed to disseminate knowledge and share practical experiences with visitors, promoting awareness of sustainable and innovative agricultural practices.
WindPower Nepal conducted a sensitization workshop gor the Provincial Climate Change Coordination Committees and parliamentarians of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Madhesh Provinces with the support of UNDP Nepal. The workshop aimed to enhance participants and understanding of climate finance mechanisms and strengthen their capacity to plan, access, and manage climate-related funds effectively. Through interactive sessions and discussions, the workshop empowered provincial representatives to take a more informed and proactive role in climate governance, enabling them to integrate climate priorities into development planning and promote sustainable, climate-resilient growth within their respective provinces.
